5th Fresenuis Contaminants and Residues in Food Conference

The Integrated Projects BioCop and GoodFood were recently presented at the 5th Fresenius Contaminants and Residues in Food Conference in COLOGNE, Germany on the 3rd – 4th May 2007. Dr. Jean-Marc Diserens (Nestlé Research Center) presented ‘’strategies of food industry to screen and analyse for Veterinary drug residues as part of the quality system’’ discussing the following topics of interest;

1. Responsibility of the food industry regarding veterinary drug Residues
2. Which veterinary drugs can/must be screened?

Dr. Diserens discussed the potential contaminants in the food and feed chain including veterinary drug residues. Other areas discussed included the legislation, detection and cost analysis of veterinary drug residues.

Frans Verstraete, is responsible for legislation on mycotoxins and some contaminants of industrial and environmental origin at the European Commission, Belgium,  also an active member of the BioCop project, he presented ‘’European Community policy on contaminants in foodstuffs: regulatory framework, strategy, achievements, current and future topics’’

Claudia Heppner, Coordinator, Scientific panel on contaminants in the food chain, EFSA, Italy, presented ‘’Aflatoxins from a risk assessment perspective’’ within the topic ‘‘Contaminants’’


Key Experts and presenters included; Klaus Abraham, Reto Battaglia, Beate Brauer, Hubert De Brabander, Giuseppe Calcagni, Stefan Fabiansson, Hermann Fromme, Dietrich Gorny among many others.
